Last year saw a Coca-Cola container pop-up in front of the iconic Bondi Beach, inviting the public to bring their empty bottle to see a demonstration on how it becomes another bottle when recycled via container deposit schemes. This year, the Coca-Cola Return Point will take to the road, visiting four locations across Sydney during National Recycling Week including Centenary Square Parramatta, Marrickville Metro, Rouse Hill Town Centre and Liverpool Macquarie Street Mall. For details on times and locations, visit Coca-Cola’s campaign hub.
In addition, Coca-Cola Australia has launched the Coca-Cola Recycling Drive, a campaign to reward local community groups. It runs through November and consists of two parts.
Firstly, the Coca-Cola Recycling Drive will award four $2,500 grants to community groups to help bring grassroots projects to life. The public can visit the Coca-Cola Recycling Drive hub throughout November and nominate their own group or a group doing good in their community. The more supporters who nominate and tell their community’s story, the stronger the entry becomes. A new winning group will be announced weekly.
Secondly, community groups can enter the Give it a Go grant competition to win $10,000 if they recycle at least 50 eligible bottles and cans via container deposit schemes. The competition will launch on 24 November via the Coca-Cola Australia facebook page.
The Coca-Cola Recycling Drive is focused on the power of collective action – proving that when communities come together, recycling efforts deliver benefits for people as well as the planet.
“We know the power of community groups and charities to drive change locally,”
said Natalie Helm, Public Affairs, Communication and Sustainability Director, Coca-Cola South Pacific.
Container deposit schemes are now available in every state across Australia, with Tasmania introducing its scheme earlier this year. These schemes reduce litter, improve recycling rates, and help support local charities across the country. Recycling through Container Deposit Schemes produces higher quality materials as each material is separated from the beginning - meaning less contamination – and can be made into new food-grade containers.
So, get collecting with your community group and give it a go this National Recycling Week – good luck!
