Coles has been a major sponsor of Planet Ark programs since 2022. Most recently, in June 2026, Coles came on board as Major Sponsor of National Tree Day. National Tree Day aligns with Coles' sustainability approach, which is focused on supporting climate, nature and circularity outcomes across the company’s operations as well as the communities it serves.
The two organisations will continue to work together on the annual Coles & Planet Ark Sustainable Schools Competition, which awards 20 schools across Australia with $5,000 each to help fund sustainability initiatives that benefit their environment and local communities. Schools are invited to showcase what they want to achieve by submitting an overview of their initiative that highlights its environmental impact and the transformative learning opportunities it will have within their school community. Since 2024, the competition has already supported 40 schools with $200,000 in funding — from creating habitat retreats for local wildlife to building wheelchair accessible edible gardens.
Together, Planet Ark and Coles have produced a range of educational content and resources, including tips and tricks to manage food waste in the home and easy-to-understand recycling information — such as a fridge checklist to help Coles' customers keep track of what's in their fridge and waste less food, and Ask Planet Ark, a series where Coles customers could submit their recycling questions and receive expert answers from the Planet Ark team.
