Reuters Kyoto CO2 Market on Track After Contract Award - UN

Date: 16-Aug-06
Country: UK

Some traders and investors in the world's burgeoning global carbon market had expected the award announcement months earlier and the delay had aroused fears of a late start to full trading.

The contract went to Trasys SA, an IT company based in Belgium. The company has subcontracted the European company LogicaCMG to maintain the software system's day-to-day operation.

"Both companies are solid members of the IT community," said Richard Kinley, acting head of the secretariat.

"They bring strong reputations and many years of experience from developing and operating similar systems in other markets. Awarding this contract is a significant milestone in finalising the systems to make carbon trading under the Kyoto Protocol a reality."
